Tomato Biryani
This is the basic recipe for most of the biryanis. It's the best and delicious alternative for biryani lovers. Easy to make and delicious to eat. Are you craving for biryani? Then this recipe suites your best.
Ingredients Required:
Basmati rice | 1 cup |
Water | 2 cups |
Onion, sliced | 1 medium |
Tomatoes, Chopped | 2 big |
Green chilies, Split | 1 big |
Ginger garlic paste | 1 tsp |
Cloves | 4-6 |
Cinnamon | 1 inch |
Cardamom, slightly opened | 1 |
Fennel seeds | 1 tsp |
Bay leaf (optional) | 1 |
Curd | 1-2 Tbsp. |
Mint leaves, finely chopped | 1 Tbsp. |
Oil | 1 Tbsp. |
Salt | To taste |
Coriander, finely chopped | For garnish |
Directions
Pressure cooker method-
1. Wash the rice and sock it at least for 10 min.
2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, fennel seeds, peanuts / cashews and fry until the peanuts / cashews turn golden brown.
3. Now add green chilies, turmeric, onions and cook till onions turn gold.
4. Add ginger garlic paste and sauté till the raw flavor vanishes.
5. Then add chili powder, chopped tomatoes and cook until tomatoes are soft and tender.
6. Finally add bay leaf, curd, rice, water, mint leaves, salt and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
7. Allow all the pressure to escape and then open the cooker, garnish with coriander and serve hot.
One pot method-
1. Wash the rice and sock it at least for 10 min.
2. Heat oil in a pot and add cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, fennel seeds, peanuts / cashews and fry until the peanuts / cashews turn golden brown.
3. Now add green chilies, turmeric, onions and sauté till onions turn gold.
4. Add ginger garlic paste and sauté till the raw flavor vanishes.
5. Then add chili powder, chopped tomatoes and cook until tomatoes are soft and tender.
6. Add bay leaf, curd and cook for few mints.
7. Now add water and bring it to boil in high heat. Then add rice, mint leaves and immediately bring the heat to medium low to low. Cover the pot with a lid and cook for 10- 12 mints.
8. Remove from heat and let it sit for 5 mints.
9. Finally garnish with coriander and serve hot.
Tips
curd will overcome the acidity of tomato. It will give you a mellow taste of tomatoes rather than sharp flavor of the tomatoes' . Best served with raitha, salna, korma, or just lime wedge.
